The new monarch in the Netherlands, Willem- Alexander, took centre stage in ‘King’s Day’ celebrations on Saturday to mark his birthday.
The change from traditional ‘Queen’s Day’ events follows the abdication of his mother Queen Beatrix last year.
The carnival atmosphere however remained.
