A 27-year-old man, Tsai Min-Feng, from Miaoli, Taiwan, was taking his wife home after a wedding on November 24. He was driving under the influence of alcohol.

At an intersection, Tsai hit 65-year-old farmer, Chang Tsung-Lin, who was riding his scooter. Then, Tsai fled the scene. Chang's suffered a fatal head injury.

Police traced the car's license plate number and found the car's owner, Tsai's mother. She claimed she was the one driving at the time of the accident, but police didn't believe her when she proved unable to park her own car. Then the woman changed her story, saying it was her husband, then her son's wife.

The police followed up and found a pair of women's shoes on the passenger side of the car, then asked the son's wife how she was able to drive without them. The wife then confessed that the real driver was her husband.

The police arrested Tsai and charged him with negligent homicide and hit-and-run. The family said they lied to protect Tsai because the young couple has newborn baby and wouldn't be able to manage financially without him.
