A veteran of Myanmar’s pro-democracy movement Win Tin has died at the age of 85.
The former newspaper editor was one of the founder members of the Anug San Suu Kyi led National League for Democracy.
Win Tin’s political activities led to his arrest by the ruling military in 1989.
He spent 19 years in prison, mostly in solitary confinement, and his incarceration was twice extended.
Win Tin was released in 2008. As a mark of defiance he continued to wear his prison uniform in solidarity with those that remained in jail.
He had been suffering from a respiratory ailment prior to his death.
