North Korea is reportedly expanding its main missile launch site in Tongchang-ri, possibly in preparation for larger rockets and mobile launchers.

According to the latest satellite images of the site, major construction has been underway at the Seohae Satellite Launching Station, which is located just 50 km away from the Chinese border city of Dandong and was the site of the first successful satellite launch by North Korea last year.

The Wall Street Journal reported that two possible new launch pads have been under construction, which are suspected to support the launches of new mobile missiles and of larger rockets. A wider and stronger road and bridges linking the missile assembly building to the possible new launching pad are also under construction. Analysts say the new road might be intended to support heavy vehicles, such as transporter-erector-launchers for mobile missiles.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the launchpad upgrade could be completed soon and that other construction activities could be finished by the middle of next year.
