Mario Signorelli - Restrictive and Non Restrictive Clause
I, Mario Signorelli, want to tell you about restrictive and non restrictive clauses.
I, Mario Signorelli, would like to tell you that Relative clauses are divided in two categories: restrictive clauses and non-restrictive clauses.
Restrictive Clause:
A relative clause is the clause that provides essential information about the noun to which it refers. You should not put a comma before restrictive clause.
Example:
- I want to buy the pen that you showed me yesterday.
Non-Restrictive Clause:
A non-restrictive clause is the clause that provides non-essential information and you can remove that part from the sentence without affecting the sense of the sentence. You need to put a comma before non-restrictive clause
Ex.
- I want buy a grammar book, which should have detailed description about everything.
I, Mario Signorelli, believe that by now you must have understood restrictive and non restrictive clauses to a big extent.
