Bangkok-based design firm Lightfog Creative and Design has developed a new bicycle able to convert pollution into clean air and oxygen.

According to reports, the new bicycle, designed by Thai engineers, can be comfortably used in cities or built-up areas where air is polluted by cars and vehicles thanks to an in-built system that cleans pollution.

The new bike would have an air filter between its handlebars which captures dust, pollutants and unwelcome airborne particles.

While the pollution is converted in clean air through the filter, a lithium-ion battery embedded in the bike's frame would release oxygen via a process that imitates photosynthesis, making the air around the cyclist completely clean.

The green frame would also convert sunlight into energy for powering the bike's battery and the filter system. That would allow the bike to emit clean air even when parked.

According to reports, there is no news on whether the bicycle will be prototyped or go into production.

A Canadian study published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives Common and quoted by the Huffington Post revealed that "pollutants spewed by cars and trucks not only irritate lungs and eyes, but can also cause heart irregularities."

The new bicycle could not only make the air cleaner for people using the bike, but also for passersby walking closely enough.

According to reports, the so-called air-purifier bike could be one of the first vehicles to provide a positive environmental impact in built up areas.
