The inspiration for Within the Walls of Santo Tomas came from a volume of TimeLife books Editor's WW II entitled Return to the Philippines. It was the section on Deliverance at Santo Tomas that was so inspiring that we decided to write a novel about the suffering, survival and eventual release of the internees who were held captive on the university grounds for three years. The novel is based on historical happenings that were researched from personal refernces and documents provided by the 1st Cavalry Division Museum archives.
