A man in Dover, New Hampshire was recently busted for allegedly stealing a laptop because of his own crucial mistake. Authorities were tipped off that 24-year-old Casey Wentworth was behind the theft after he called customer support for assistance in unlocking the laptop.
The case stretches back to February of 2013. It was then that a local man named Mike Witonis went to bed and woke up to find someone had walked inside his home and swiped his new Apple laptop.
No suspects were immediately indentified so police contacted authorities at Apple and flagged the computer’s serial number. Months went by with no progress, that is until Witonis got an email from Apple thanking him for contacting the company.
The problem was he hadn’t called customer service, but someone who had the laptop and gave staffers the accompanying serial number did. Police were soon notified and eventually they were able to track the call and pinpoint Casey Wentworth as the suspect.
He is slated to be arraigned in court on May 2nd.
