STORY: At least 12 passengers were killed and over 30 wounded in a train blast in Pakistan's restive Baluchistan province on Tuesday (April 8), hospital sources and officials said.
The explosion hit a wagon designated for male passengers of the Rawalpindi-bound Jaffar Express while it was at Sibi Railway Station.
A rescue worker said the fire that engulfed other train compartments following the blast caused most of the deaths.
Television pictures showed a carriage on fire and thick smoke billowing from it.
The blast comes a day after Pakistani security forces killed 30 separatist militants in one of the biggest clashes in months in the gas-rich province.
The separatist insurgency in Baluchistan province is a chronic security concern undermining stability in nuclear-armed Pakistan.
