Legendary actor Mickey Rooney died on Sunday at the age of 93.

He was one of America's biggest movie stars in the 1930s and 40s, perhaps best known for his role as Andy Hardy. His career spanned 10 decades ... and he proved he could handle serious roles too.

Movie-goers loved the lively chemistry Rooney had with Judy Garland. The duo made several films together.

Off-screen Rooney could be called the Justin Bieber of his time. Fame, money, gambling and lust were all issues for the MGM studio, which didn't like seeing the young star tarnish his reputation and box-office potential.

The actor was married eight times - the first, to screen beauty Ava Gardner.

In 1978 he found a lasting marriage with country singer Jan Chamberlin.

The pair went on tour with a song-and-dance act when he was in his late 80s.
