Seattle police have just released never before seen photographs taken at the scene of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain's death in 1994.

The images, taken from rolls of film that were left undeveloped until now, show among other things a hat, a wallet, a packet of American Spirit cigarettes, a lighter, and a cigar box. In one photograph, the cigar box is left open and can be seen to contain syringes and a spoon, implements for preparing and consuming heroin.

Police said the film was re-examined in anticipation of the 20th anniversary of the musician's death, to dispel rumors of foul play kept alive by conspiracy theorists.

Cobain, considered one of the greatest musical artists of his time, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head and shot gun across his chest in his home on April 8, 1994. A suicide note was discovered near the body and police ruled the death a suicide.

Police said the images offer no new information and that Cobain's death will not be reinvestigated.

Cobain, who was married to rock singer Courtney Love and had a young daughter at the time, was known to have struggled with drug use and depression before his death. He was 27 when he died.
