DC Homeless girl Relisha Rudd kidnapped by murderer Kahlil Tatum

Kahlil Tatum, a 51 year old janitor at a Washington DC homeless shelter, is accused of murdering his own wife and kidnapping an eight year old girl, Relisha Tenau Rudd, who belonged to a family staying in the shelter. Tatum's wife was found murdered in a DC area Red Roof Inn on March 20th and police consider him to be the prime suspect. That was the same day when Relisha Tenau Rudd's school reported to police that she had not been in class for several days.

Police discovered that Relisha had been in Tatum's custody for nearly a month, as confirmed by security footage from another hotel taken on February 26th. Relisha was entrusted to Tatum by the girl's mother, Shamika Young, who was living in the shelter with her other children and Relisha's stepfather. She recalls that Tatum befriended the family and treated Relisha nicely, bringing her gifts occasionally. Now Young has gone on TV in a tearful appeal for Tatum to return her daughter.

An amber alert has been issued for all states between Pennsylvania and Florida, and the FBI is offering $25,000 for information leading either to Relisha's return, or to Tatum's capture. However, a local DC news station discovered several Virginia police departments didn't have Relisha's amber alert on their websites or notice boards.
