Stephen Colbert has found himself in the middle of a controversy after a Tweet was sent from a Comedy Central account. Many Netizens are upset because they deem the message as racist or a mockery of Asian stereotypes.

The social media note read ‘I am willing to show #Asian community I care by introducing the Ching-Chong Ding-Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever.’

The Tweet came from the account that promotes his show, The Colbert Report, and was reportedly a quote taken out of context from a recent skit on his show. Despite that seemingly damning origin, Colbert has denied having anything to do with the Tweet and claims he’s not sure who is responsible for writing it.

He was forced to defend himself shortly after the hashtag #CancelColbert started to trend, as Twitter users were in an uproar over what they saw as a note of insensitivity.

It was then that Colbert used his personal account to shut down the rumors that he posted the Tweet. In his defensive message, Colbert also pointed out that he shared Netizens’ rage at the comment.

The Tweet that started all the trouble was soon deleted from the Comedy Central account. @ColbertReport then released another Tweet confirming Colbert had nothing to do with the original post, but did not reveal who actually typed it.
