19 new praying mantis species hailing from Central and South America have been identified, and one has been named after Al Gore.

The newly identified insects have a lot of traits that make them quite different than their widely known relatives.

One is that they’re fast.

The insects are typically known for their slow movements and stealthy hunting techniques.

Not this group. They prefer a more assertive approach that involves running after their prey until they get close enough to grab it.

It’s not all about the pursuit, though. Another unique trait that gives them both offensive and defensive advantages is their markings.

The new ones belong to a group called bark mantises and their earthy, mottled coloring makes them almost undetectable when they’re hanging out on the trunk of a tree.

They also don’t appear to kill their mates after coupling, one of the more infamous behaviors of praying mantises at large.

Each of the newly found species has been given a scientific name.

In addition to the one given a moniker that honors Al Gore for his environmental advocacy, two children’s entertainers also received a nod.
