It was January 1st but we still had to get up at 6.30 AM to have ample time to return our rental car and get to HKT airport from the Westin Siray Bay. The good news – very few people had the same idea so roads were rather deserted at 8 AM in the morning.

I'm an Aegan Gold which translates into Star Alliance Gold and although I still haven't received my card after 3 months of being Gold (yes I'm looking at you Aegan customer service), I was planning to add my A3 Frequent Flyer number to the flight when checking in. Check-in was crowded and the agent not in a good mood. She spent 15 minutes on the phone and still told me she could not add a new FFP to our tickets. At this point I gave up. However she surprisingly offered to put us for free on the direct flight HKT-HKG which would arrive at 7.30PM – our connecting flight via Bangkok would get us there 5.15 PM so we thankfully denied.
