Complaints have been filed from both private and commercial pilots flying nearby Las Vegas McCarran Airport passing over the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System.

The problem is the reflected glare from the solar panels causing visual interference for the pilots on a daily basis.

Stretching for more than five square miles on federal land, the solar farm has almost 350 thousand mirrors that have been compared to the size of a garage door, along with three towers that are equivalent to 40 story tall buildings.

The Clark County Department of Aviation has received so many complaints from pilots that they are asking the company called BrightSource that runs the solar farm to survey how much glare is coming off of the panels, and to provide contact information for pilots to be able to contact managers of the power plant.

Another report on the same solar power plant says that the 2 point 2 billion dollar farm is also responsible for killing off birds in the area, which is stirring up environmental controversy.
