NBA asks Lebron James to lose black mask

Thanks to the unbelievably bland NBA, Lebron James of the Miami Heat was asked to lose his pretty awesome looking black carbon protective mask after only one game in exchange for a boring looking Rip Hamilton version. Lebron wore a clear mask for the Heat game Saturday night against the Orlando Magic.

The NBA didn't force Lebron to switch to a transparent mask, but he still complied with the league's "suggestion."

"I don't know if I expected it, but I'm not surprised," James said Saturday before the game during the pregame media session. "It's not a league rule, but it's the league's request that you don't wear the black one. For the reasons that they told me, it didn't make sense to me. But hey, I'm just a player in this league and I will abide by this request -- I'm not even going to say rule, but request -- by the NBA."

James did not reveal the nitty gritty details of the NBA's request. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra did say that commissioner Adam Silver talked with Heat CEO Nick Arson on Friday to handle the issue.

"I don't want to get into it," James said. "I'm good with the NBA. We're good. I am not against the NBA. They had a request and I fulfilled it. Let's just leave it at that. As long as (the mask) is transparent. As long as they can see my face, my opponents."

Lebron had worn the black carbon-fiber protective mask for their win against the Knicks last Thursday, where many compared him to superheroes or supervillains.
