One man was shot dead and another person injured after an argument with another moviegoer over using his cell phone inside a Wesley Chapel, Florida, movie theater on Monday afternoon (January 13). The Pasco County Sheriff's office has identified the shooting suspect as retired Tampa police officer Curtis Reeves, 71. The victims have been identified as Chad and Nichole Oulson.

According to eyewitnesses at the Cobb Grove 16 Theater, the Oulsons were seated in a row in front of Curtis Reeves and a female companion. Chad Oulson was using his phone as previews were playing before a showing of "Lone Survivor".

"There was an altercation because the victim was using his cell phone. He was texting. - He was making a lot of noise," Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said. "This led to a verbal altercation, the verbal altercation escalated."

Mid-way through the argument, Reeves got up and left the theater for a moment, only to return and resume the argument. Oulson said he was just texting his daughter. According to ABC News, when Oulson stood from his seat, Reeves pulled out a .380 handgun and opened fire.

One witness who was seated with his son near the victim said popcorn was thrown before the shots were fired, although he wasn't sure who had thrown it.

Two nurses who were at the theater performed CPR on the victim until paramedics arrived. An off-duty Sumter County deputy who was in the theater took Reeves's weapon and held him until arresting officers arrived, according to ABC News.

The Oulsons were airlifted to Tampa General Hospital, where Chad Oulson was pronounced dead. Nichole Oulson, who tried to stop the shooting, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
