A Japanese teacher in his 30s from a public junior high school in Okayama was given a dishonorable discharge on suspicion of filming up the skirts of female pupils using a smartphone while they were meditating.

The accused was a supervising teacher of nine-grade students and allegedly liked watching upskirt movies on the Internet. On multiple occasions starting last April, he would ask his students to close their eyes to perform mediations before the bell rang at the end of the day.

After making sure all of their eyes were closed, he would take out a smartphone that could take photos without a shutter sound, and secretly filmed the insides of girls' skirts. Some students opened their eyes and realised what he was doing. They told their parents and police. The teacher confessed to the charges during questioning, saying that he couldn't resist the temptation. Okayama Prefecture School Board later sacked him. The man is accused of taking upskirt photos 30 times since September.
