A woman in Rimini, Italy has launched a lawsuit against her local health care authority after treatment following a cancer diagnosis went horribly wrong. The 40-year-old lady was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011.

An operation was performed on the unnamed woman to remove the cancerous lump on her left breast. After that, she began chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment.

After four months, she had already undergone over 20 radiotherapy sessions at an oncology hospital. The woman soon noticed she had a burn mark on her right breast. That one was perfectly healthy.

She immediately notified her doctor and asked if the wrong breast had been treated. The doctor reportedly confirmed it was true. Four months of painful treatments had all been for nothing.

The woman is now seeking over a million dollars in damages for alleged medical negligence. Her lawyer stated “It’s the first case in Italy of such an error. In the world, only in the United States in Pennsylvania, has there been a similar case to that at the Rimini hospital.”

The presiding judge over the case is currently assessing all of the medical documents.
