A high-rise apartment building in Medellin, Colombia was imploded on Thursday (February 27) in a controlled explosion that toppled the building, leaving just a heap of rubble and thick smoke and dust.
The blast occurred several minutes before it was anticipated, but authorities said the implosion was a success with the building collapsing in on itself and toppling in just seconds.
Tower 5 of the Space Building complex in Medellin was deemed unsafe after Tower 6 accidentally collapsed last October killing 12 people.
Authorities still have to determine if Tower 4 of the 6-building complex in the upscale El Pablado neighbourhood is safe.
Residents were evacuated from Tower 6 in October of last year after cracks were noticed in the structure.
Hensei Vega, the owner of an apartment in the complex, said they were still waiting for answers surrounding the tragedy.
