Sanitation workers in Medina, Ohio clearly don’t believe in that old phrase pertaining to finders keepers. Employees recently went out of their way to return an unopened birthday card to the original recipient.

A staffer saw the pristine purple envelope nestled amongst piles of trash during their daily collection. Josh Kerns is the worker in question. He immediately suspected something wasn’t right and placed the card in his pocket.

He eventually opened it up and saw that $50 had been left inside as a birthday present. Kerns knew it had to go back to the owner. He and his supervisor, Bob Depew drove back to Lucy Hamer’s house.

She was shocked to learn about the birthday card from her sister-in-law because she never knew it existed. Hamer stated ‘They found it in the trash and they took the time to come and give it back to me. I feel like they just went above and beyond.’

According to Hamer, the card had come in a box filled with presents for her son. He left the card unopened and forgot to tell his mother about it so the envelope unintentionally ended up in the trash.
