An unidentified man in his early 20s who had been taking part in an internet fad called skywalking fell off from scaffolding on a viaduct around 4 a.m. last week in Shepton Mallet, in Somerset, England.
Skywalking is an internet extreme sport of sorts that involves taking a selfie while perched on or dangling from a vertigo-inducing height.
According to the police, the man was with a friend when he tried to take a selfie from a height of 25 feet when he fell. Emergency services arrived at 4:03 a.m. and found the man alive but with severe injuries on his back and neck.
Hammond, the scaffolding company, said the Shepton Mallet viaduct has been under maintenance since February 3. The work is expected to last for 12 weeks, with the road remaining closed to vehicles but open to pedestrians during this time. Hammond declined to comment on the incident.
