Avatar actor Sam Worthington was arrested in New York for attacking a paparazzo who kicked his partner Lara Bingle. The event took place at the Cubbyhole bar in Manhattan's West Village on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.

The photographer was attempting to get some unwanted shots of the couple and resorted to kicking Bingle in the shin. Worthington then yelled "You kicked my wife" before punching 37-year-old photographer Sheng Li, leaving lacerations on his face.

Police arrived at the scene and arrested both Worthington and Li. Worthington did not appear to have been harmed in the altercation, and Bindle was reported to have walked away with a bruised shin. Worthington was charged with assault but was released on bail. The photographer was also charged with reckless endangerment, assault and harassment.

New York Police Department Lieutenant John Grimpel confirmed the details with news.com, saying, "Yes, Sam Worthington was arrested tonight and charged with assault. He was released on a desk ticket with return to appear in court on 26 Feb."

The incident follows recent rumors that the couple may have gotten married on their latest trip to Australia. They have both been seen wearing matching rings. After this outburst, even more attention is centered around the couple and their relationship status.

Worthington was also arrested in 2012 for assaulting a doorman at the Vortex Bar and Grill in Atlanta, Georgia. Those charges were dropped when the witness failed to appear in court.
