The benefits of flexibility are quite well known but very rarely applied. Flexibility seems to be quickly overlooked by the majority of men and a large amount of women. Hopefully I can convince you that the benefits of flexibility really do out weigh the time it takes to sit there and perform the stretches.
First of all flexibility is defined as the range of movement in a joint or joints. We tend to think of flexibility as the tension in our muscles, which is indirectly correct. What we need to do though is increase our flexibility over time to take full advantage of the superb benefits.
Some of the main benefits of flexibility are listed below:

Increased blood flow to muscle tissue
Improves posture - Muscles aren't tight or short
Decreased risk of injury - High range of motion/flexible joints
Reduced pain - Promotes muscular relaxation
Increased balance - Reducing muscular imbalances
Looking at that list of benefits it's shocking that more people don't feel a need to stretch every day. I know that I struggle, and that's because it's boring, plain and simple!... But!
That doesn't change the fact I still do it and I try to get as many people as I can stretching daily too as the benefits of flexibility far out weigh the 10-15 minutes a day that it takes.
To make stretching a little easier I've detailed out 3 ways that you can stretch effectively. The deeper the stretch the less frequently you need to do it.
Different ways to stretch
Manually - Stretching your own muscle E.g. Bending over = Hamstrings
With Equipment - Foam roller, tennis ball. Used to stretch the muscle over
Massage - Another person physically stretching out the muscle for you
I strongly suggest that you do all 3. Manually I suggest daily, with a foam roller weekly and monthly with a sports massage. Combining all 3 ways of stretching will mean that you get the benefits of flexibility to the absolute MAX!
Lastly make sure that you stretch after every training session as a minimum. You just spent time working and putting tension though a muscle, so you need to relax it again and stretch it out.
