Authorities at Volkswagen AG are dealing with a surplus of Bugatti cars. The company has approximately 40 vehicles left over with a combined value of approximately $85 million.
Volkswagen AG is now planning to bring those cars straight to customers instead of the other way around. In 2006, the Veyron 16.4 coupe was debuted. Production was limited to 300 and by 2011 they were sold out.
Two convertible editions were later released. The Grand Sport and Grand Sport Vitesse weren’t quite as popular when compared to the coupe.
The leftover convertibles remain sitting. The company refuses to create any new models until all these versions are sold out.
In an effort to get rid of them as quickly as possible, four regional events around the U.S are planned for 2014. The incredibly fast 1,200-horsepower Vitesse convertibles, which sell from anywhere between $2.3 and $3 million, will be offered to about 25 potential buyers per weekend of the marketing campaign.
They will be able to take the vehicles for a spin on a closed airport runaway and wide open streets. Said John Hill, sales director for the Americas, ‘The Dynamic Drive Experience is attracting individuals who haven’t been exposed to our brand before, other than possibly reading about it. We bring the car to a location near them.’
