These Taonga Pepeha honours the tapu places, guardians and people of Ohau Matua (The Whitecliffs Valley). First settled by the ancient Waitaha, the people of peace, many many moons ago. Who continue today to walk and teach in the ways of Rongo Marae Roa (Grandmother of Peace) in the Valley of the Teachers Ohau Matua. Under the sacred mountain Wharariki beside the sacred river Wakirikiri Kopuni these taonga were created, inspired by the ancient stories and Storytellers of Waitaha. Within these shaped windows the stories symbolically weave the songs that dance in the waters of this valley.
