The Founder and Leader of MQM Mr Altaf Hussain has made a demand to the President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Shareef, Army Chief Gen Raheel, DG ISI Zaheer-ul-Islam, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Chief Minister Sindh for the recovery of MQM workers who have been arrested and put in illegal detention by different government agencies.
In a statement Mr. Hussain said, “Hundreds of MQM workers and office bearers have become victims of enforced disappearances. These detained workers are being subjected to inhumane torture in government detention centers. They are not being produced in the court of law. More than 45 office bearers and workers have become victims of enforced disappearances, including MQM PIB Sector’s three members Muhammad Naeem Ahmed, Arif Nizami and Muhammad Ali. These people were arrested from Jail Road on October 7, 2013. Muhammad Ali’s mother could not bear the shock and has died. Law enforcement agencies had arrested MQM’s Lyari sector member on October 2 too. Several months have passed and police and rangers are not willing to tell us about their whereabouts. Their family members are in agony. They are running from door to door to find information about them. They have filed petitions for their recovery and waiting for the justice. If there are charges against these disappeared people they should be produced in the court. It is wrong to kill them in detention. It is not justice but tyranny. It is miscarriage of justice.“
Mr. Hussain has also appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan Tassaduq Jilani to take notice of these enforced disappearances and provide justice to families of the missing persons. He has also appealed to human rights organizations to raise their voices over the missing MQM workers and human rights violations.
