England rugby captain Chris Robshaw says the team "can't sit around feeling sorry for themselves", following their defeat against France, as the country's rugby reputation is at stake.

England captain Chris Robshaw said the team couldn't "sit around feeling sorry for [itself]" following their narrow 26-24 defeat to France in their opening Six Nations game.

"We've got the country's reputation in the rugby department at stake and we want to go out there and show what we're about, we want to do it proud and unfortunately yeh, we let it down today," said Robshaw.

England coach Stuart Lancaster hailed his young side's character and resilience saying, "having got ourselves back into the game, being 16-3 down, to lose was very disappointing.

"But I'm very proud of the effort and skills our players put in today. It's the first time for a lot of players to come here and play, we're extremely proud of their performance".

Having conceded a try after 30 seconds and trailed 16-8 at the interval, England fought back superbly as Mike Brown and debutant centre Luther Burrell both scored tries, while buccaneering number eight Billy Vunipola proved to be a handful for the French defence.
