The red carpet was rolled out for French President François Hollande as he arrived in Washington.
He will be in the united States for three days. His state visit will include a black-tie dinner at the White House and a trip in the presidential plane Air Force One.
Hollande will also visit Silicon Valley and have lunch with the heads of Facebook and Google, as well as touring Thomas Jefferson’s house in Virginia
It’s the first state visit to the US by a French president since Jacques Chirac visited Bill Clinton in 1996. It’s being seen as evidence of the close ties between the two countries.
