Anti-gay violence in Russia documented in video

Views 6

The world is coming to Russia... Specifically to Sochi Russia, to see the 2014 Winter Olympics. And while many are questioning the security of the venues amidst a terroristic wave that threatens to crash the party, the bigger story could very well be the outright open terrorizing of that country's homosexual population.

Human Rights Watch, an international non-governmental organization that conducts research and advocacy on human rights, released a video (http://youtu.be/zMTbFSJ_Tr4) that casts a stark light on the condoned violence and bullying against those in the LGBT community.

Because Russia has banned all "propaganda relating to an alternative lifestyle", hate groups believe they have been granted carte blanche freedom to go and abuse, humiliate, beat and torture victims, and never face any reprisals from the justice system. They even go so far as to post these horrific acts onto YouTube.

What about the police? You'd think they'd care about people brazenly abusing others in what constitutes random hate crimes... But law enforcement's opinion is literally, "that's what you get for being gay."

Russia's President, Vladimir Putin, said in an official statement "all visitors to Sochi, gay or straight, can be relaxed and calm.... But he also added "please leave the children alone."

We wonder how does a man who holds multiple degrees, (both the academic kind and the black belt kind), is known to be a deep thinker, reportedly rides bears shirtless, and could very well be the only person alive to stand a chance against Chuck Norris in a streetfight---how can he get homosexuality and pedophilia mixed up?!

At any rate, The 22nd Winter games kick off in only 2 days... The world will be watching.
