It’s imperative for expectant moms to pay attention to the movements of their unborn child. A couple in California, Josh and Jennifer Juarez recently welcomed their newborn daughter named Hope into the world.
However the birth wasn’t typical, as Hope was nearly bloodless. Her small body lost approximately 80 percent of its blood only hours before she was born.
It was Jennifer who first noticed something wasn’t right. She was three weeks shy of her due date and that time she realized Hope’s movements had dwindled down.
Hope normally kicked about 10 times every half hour, but suddenly the movements completely stopped. Jennifer suspected something was wrong and visited her midwife.
Doctors swiftly took Jennifer in for an emergency cesarean. When Hope was born, she was referred to as a ghost baby, due to the stark whiteness of her skin. Surgeons learned the blood loss was related to a fetal-maternal hemorrhage, which occurred in the womb.
Hope received a blood transfusion and survived. While no one knows the cause of the hemorrhage, one thing is certain. Jennifer saved Hope’s life by alerting doctors right away of the sudden cease in fetal movement.
