As umbrellas fill the Vatican's St. Peter's Square, Pope Francis offers prayers for the people hit by strong storms in Italy.
(SOUNDBITE) (Italian) POPE FRANCIS SAYING:
"My affectionate thoughts go to the dear people of Rome and Tuscany, affected by the rains that have caused flooding. Do not leave these brothers, who are in affliction, out of our concrete solidarity and our prayers. Dear brothers and sisters, I am thinking of you."
For a third straight day - heavy rains hit central and southern Italy.
Between the cities of Pisa and Florence - about 1,000 people were evacuated from their homes.
Floods made roads impassable in Calabria in the south - and at least three people died - after flood waters swept away a car in Sicily.
Meanwhile, in the north, snow keeps falling - raising concerns about avalanches.
Meteorologists predict the bad weather could continue in Italy until Tuesday.
