As cordial as a divorce might be, nothing perhaps stirs the pot more than feeling replaced. A London woman was just granted almost half of her millionaire ex-husband’s riches after he asked her to become the maid for him, his lover, and her child.

An unnamed businessman had been married to his wife for about 20 years. After getting a divorce that was “just a piece of paper,” they continued to live together as if married for another 10 years. During that time, he amassed a fortune of 13.6 million british pounds - about 22.5 million US Dollars.

5 years ago, the man in his 70s began seeing another woman and moved her into his home, along with her 12-year-old child. When announcing this to his ex-wife, over 50 years old, he suggested she stay “as some sort of housekeeper” and then could not fathom why she found the request “very demeaning and upsetting.”

She said he threatened suicide or a hunger strike if she went after a financial settlement. He argued a signed agreement limited how much wealth she could get, but she insisted it was “under duress” of his threats.

The case was heard in London’s high court by the Judge, Sir David Bodey, who awarded the ex-wife almost $10 million.
