European Greens name candidates for top EU job

European Green Party voters have chosen their two candidates to head the next European Commission.

French MEP José Bové, a farmer who once dismantled a McDonalds resturant in an-anti-globalisation protest, is one of them.

“I had hoped that this participation would be much larger, because it would have been extraordinary, but at the same time the Greens are the first party attempting this experience,” said Bové

The other name picked by European Green Party members is German MEP Ska Keller.

Only 20,000 people voted online, as our correspondent in Brussels, Rudolf Herbert, explains.

“The result is an alarm signal: Because for many citizens it is still unknown who the European politicians are and how important the European Parliament and the Commission have become,” he said.
