As a security guard stands by this car in Cairo, a lone bullet hole serves as reminder of the chaos plaguing Egypt.

This latest attack killed General Mohamed Saeed of the Interior Ministry.

Saeed now joins the hundreds of members of security forces killed since July.

The assassination came hours before Islamist President Mohamed Mursi appeared in court.

The Muslim Brotherhood leader faces charges related to a mass jail break during the 2011 uprising, including kidnapping and murder.

Security remains tight outside the courtroom as insurgents continue to threaten Egypt's fragile interim government that took power following Mursi's overthrow in July.
