21-year-old Verdun Sturgus Kemp recently landed in court on charges of cultivating pot. According to a detective involved in the bust of Kemp’s operation, he used a spare room inside his home to grow nearly 300 marijuana plants.
He precisely controlled the temperature, installed special lighting, ventilation units and even played the classical music. Kemp reportedly told the detective the plants took well to the tunes, causing them to grow better.
He also stashed containers of plant nutrients in his bathroom, so he could monitor the liquid’s acidity. Although the job was thorough, authorities raided the home about 4 weeks before production was scheduled.
Kemp expected to make about 500,000 New Zealand dollars in annual profits which is the equivalent of 416,000 US Dollars. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to over 2 years behind bars.
