It really does pay to keep a constant eye on your luggage while traveling.
A 74-year-old grandmother in Auckland, New Zealand, Gillian Rodgers is baffled and bothered after discovering approximately $50,000 worth of amphetamines in her suitcase.
The drug filled bag, which reportedly measured about the size of a cigarette pack, was tucked away in a small side pocket. Adding to the mystery, the suitcase has been sitting for the past four years.
The last time Rodgers used it, she took a month long cruise to Australia. After that wrapped up, she flew back to Auckland.
During her travels, she kept all the pockets on the suitcase padlocked, except for that one small opening where the drugs were found.
Police have positively determined the substance is amphetamines and are investigating how someone was able to conceal the bag without Rodgers knowing it.
The whole ordeal has many questioning if customs authorities dropped the ball and somehow missed the drugs during the screening process. A spokesperson, however, pointed out someone could have planted them anytime in the past four years since Rodgers took her trip.
