Most drivers have encountered a fender bender at some point during their lives. In one mind boggling report, a driver in Washington D.C. crashed into a boat.

According to police, the motorist blasted through two separate gates before plunging into the waters of the Potomac River and striking the docked boat.

At this point, law enforcement is unsure whether or not the accident was intentional or if the unidentified driver simply lost control. When rescuers arrived at the scene, they found the vehicle partially submerged in the water, wedged between the boat and the dock.

The boat may have reduced the seriousness of the accident, as it acted as a barrier of sorts, preventing the car from fully landing under the ice cold water’s surface, which would have made rescue efforts much more difficult and frantic.

Nevertheless, the aftermath of the crash was still solemn. The vehicle operator was immediately transported to the nearest hospital. The extent of the injuries was listed as life-threatening.

The damage to the boat was estimated to be about $600,000.
