If you’re going to escape from prison, choosing the right season is probably important.

Robert Vick is one inmate who chose the wrong season to escape a jail in Kentucky. Although he was able to successfully flee from the minimum security prison in Lexington, it wasn’t long before he turned himself in.

He was on the run for one day before giving up because he couldn’t take the freeing sub zero outdoor temperatures. Vick, who was wearing typical jail attire when he escaped, walked to a local motel when he realized the cold was unbearable.

At the time, wind chill readings in Kentucky were reported to be approximately 20 below zero. He swiftly informed a hotel clerk he needed to contact prison authorities and turn himself in.

Vick was looked over by paramedics prior to his return behind bars. Serving a six-year term for burglary and possession of a forged instrument, he is now safely back in the Blackburn Correctional complex.

It was not released whether or not he will receive an additional sentence for his escape stunt.
