Police clash with Kurdish protesters in Istanbul

Demonstrators in Istanbul have clashed with police during a protest march on the French consulate.

Around 600 people had gathered in the Turkish city calling for justice for three Kurdish women murdered in Paris last year.

All were gunned down in the French capital. The motive for the killings still remains unclear.

Security forces used tear gas, water cannon and also rubber bullets in a bid to push back the crowd which contained many supporters of the PKK, the outlawed Kurdish Workers Party.

The deaths of the three women in Paris last January sent shock waves through Europe’s Kurdish community.

Authorities in France have charged a 30-year-old man for the three deaths, but many Kurds continue to believe there has been a cover up.
