at times when someone says you are transcending race (in particular) or gender; they mean that you have done your very best to make yourself (and your respective culture) invisible and assimilating. however, anyone who knows me well enough knows i'm not one of those people, so when someone says this to me i look at it from a different perspective.
how does one who 'transcends' these constructs deal with being in the face of, say, racism though? here's my story.
