It can be extra fun to have your child’s birthday coincide with a holiday. One family in particular says they are filled with excitement and joy at the birth of their twins just before and after midnight on New Year’s Eve in a Washington D.C. area hospital.

Originally from Peru, Yaleni and Warren Begazo welcomed their daughter, Lorraine, at 11:58 pm on New Year’s Eve. Three minutes later, Yaleni had Lorraine’s twin brother Brandon at 12:01 am on New Year’s Day.

39-year-old Yaleni said she was exhausted, but extremely happy. 18-year-old big brother Dylan, who had always wanted siblings growing up, but had given up hope, said, “Now I see all these new possibilities.”

Both Dylan and 53-year-old Warren say they can easily tell the healthy twins apart. Weighing 6 pounds, 5 ounces, Lorraine is larger, is more active, and cries more. Weighing 5 pounds, 10 ounces, Brandon is easygoing, sleeps all night long, and has freckles.

The family plans to celebrate their birthdays each New Year’s Eve with two cakes. According to Warren, “One cake will blow out before midnight and the other cake after midnight.” This way, he added, “I don't have to do two different parties.”
