Five headless bodies and their severed heads were dumped in two separate locations in the western state of Michoacan, Mexico.
Three of the bodies were displayed roadside in a township on the northern edge of Morelia. Two others were found in a separate town square.
Violence has been increasing in Michoacan. In 2013, the murder rate rose, and, by comparison to declines most states, has almost doubled since 2006.
In recent years, masked groups of vigilantes have taken matters into their own hands in rural communities, claiming the government hasn't done enough to stop gang violence.
Murders peaked nationwide in 2011 during a military-led a war against drug cartels.
