ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION
U.S. President Barack Obama said Friday the U.S. economy improved in 2013, and that 2014 "can be a breakthrough year" for America.
"More Americans are finding work, and experiencing the pride of a paycheck. Our businesses are positioned for new growth and new jobs. And I firmly believe that 2014 can be a break-through year for America. But, as I outlined in detail earlier this month, we all know there's a lot more we're going to have to do to restore opportunity and broad-based growth for every American," President Obama said.
Obama made his remarks at an end-of-the-year White House news conference. The president and his family are scheduled to spend the holidays in Hawaii.
