A man in Calgary, Tom Crist won $40 million last May.
Instead of jumping up and down when the Western Canada lottery called, he quietly disconnected and went golfing, without sharing the great news with anyone. The reason why Crist kept the secret was because he knew he wasn’t keeping the money.
In February of 2012, Crist’s wife passed away from cancer. She was only 57 years of age and the couple had been married for 33 of those years.
Crist just recently told his children about the big win.
The whole family is now in agreement on where the cash will end up. The entire $40 million is going to cancer societies and charities in memory of Crist’s wife.
The money will be put in a family trust fund and throughout the years will be given to reputable organizations handpicked by the relatives. Crist stated “I’ve been fortunate enough, through my career, 44 years with a company. I did very well for myself. I’ve done enough that I can look after myself, for my kids, so they can get looked after into the future. I don’t really need that money.”
