Upon hearing some of the over-the-top requests kids have recently made of Santa, one woman decided to share the Christmas wish list her late grandfather wrote nearly a century ago.

His modest and polite letter offers a great perspective on how much the expectations of children have inflated over the years.

The young boy’s correspondence begins, "Dear Santa Claus. Will you please send me a box of paints, also a nine cent reader, and a school bag to put them in."

Once he’s covered the big wishes, he goes on to ask, "And if you have any nuts, or candy, or toys to spare, would you kindly send me some."

He closes by noting how happy those things would make him.

The writer of that note was Homer Mellen, who was 7 years old when he penned it in 1915.

His son, Larry, commented on it saying that it really shows how little people appreciate things these days and how much they expect.

Pointing that out wasn’t the reason for saving it all these years, though.

It was found in a keepsake box filled with photos and other small reminders of family’s past.
