Brotherhood leader in court, Cairo clears up after clashes

Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Badie appeared in court for the first time since he was arrested, following the army's overthrow of President Mohamed Mursi.
Badie faces charges that include inciting violence during a Brotherhood sit-in at Cairo University, mid-July. He defiantly has denied that the group had turned to violence.
After the court appearance, Badie's defense lawyer spoke to reporters:
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) DEFENCE LAWYER, MOHAMED EL-DAMATY, SAYING:
"We requested that the accused be released on bail. The second request was to postpone the case in order to review the evidence. And the court postponed the case until February 11, when they will hear witness testimony and also in order to have time to review the case documents."
Violence erupted earlier in the day, when police fired tear gas at Mursi supporters demonstrating at a university.
A witness said three police vehicles were set on fire and at least 58 students were arrested.
