Armed men have raided a luxury jewellery store in Paris, making off with 800,000 euros worth of loot.

According to witnesses the robbers entered the jewellers near the iconic Place Vendôme in Paris and threatened the staff before taking around twenty watches.

According to Yohann Marras from the Police trade union:

“They entered, the male showed the butt of a revolver he had in his belt. Meanwhile, the lady took dozens of watches and placed them in a bag. They then left the shop on foot. “

It is the latest in a string of high-class heists on French jewellers in recent months. Axe-wielding robbers targeting another store on Place Vendôme stole watches worth hundreds of thousands of euros.

The Cannes Film Festival also fell foul of jewel thieves who raided the Carlton hotel and had a total haul of 1.4million in jewels which had been destined for the necks of glamorous film stars.
