In July 2009, some parts of eastern Ahmedabad like Geeta Mandir and surrounding areas witnessed a hooch tragedy that left 156 people dead and more than 200 persons affected by the same. following the tragedy, the Gujarat High Court has observed that the state government should table the report of Justice K M Mehta Commission on the floor of the Assembly at the earliest so that the report could be considered and discussed.
